Blacklisted Hoffenheim midfielder Dennis Geiger (27) set for Aberdeen loan

Kicker reports that Hoffenheim midfielder Dennis Geiger is about to be loaned out to Scottish outfit Aberdeen. The 27-year-old may be the first of many Bundesliga professionals recruited to the Scottish Premiership by veteran German footballing administrator Lutz Pfannenstiel, who took up his latest post after spending five years recruiting German footballers to St. Louis City in America’s MLS.

Dennis Geiger found himself blacklisted by Hoffenheim

Geiger remained an important part of the TSG squad last season, by found himself eventually pushed out of head coach Christian Ilzer’s plans after criticizing club management. The Sinsheimers have been trying to move Geiger since this summer. The former Germany U21 international has not logged a single minute of action in any competitive fixtures this season.

At his peak Geiger was considered a €13m-valued player with excellent German national team prospects. The Hoffenheim academy man, when fit, filled a variety of midfield roles for the only club he’s ever represented. TSG head coaches Sebastian Hoeneß and Pellegrino Matarazzo often devised interesting tactical roles for him.

Geiger racked up a total of 125 Bundesliga appearances over the course of eight seasons as a pro in Kraichgau. The Mosbach-native scored six goals in the German top flight. His current contract with Hoffenheim runs until 2027. It shall prove interesting to see if Pfannenstiel builds a purchase option into the deal.
